Limiting Access by IP Address Ranges
This page is for centers who choose to limit access to nicq.org and Web Services by IP address.
The access restriction prevents your users from viewing these sites from non-hospital computers.
In order to provide this security, we need a list or range of approved IP addresses.
This page is intended to help you produce this list.
You are currently browsing our website from this IP address:
38.107.179.224
The above address is likely only 1 IP address of many that you need to provide to us. You will need to contact
your IT department to get the full list of addresses.
Please print this page and bring it to your IT department.
Information for IT staff
IP Address Basics
IP addresses are really 32 bit numbers usually expressed in dotted decimal format: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Each number between the decimals represents 8 bits of binary data and in base 10 notation
can be between 0 and 255. So a correct IP Address is 64.236.16.20, but 64.287.16.20 would be incorrect.
IP Ranges
Groups of computers/devices on a network usually are all within a range of IP addresses.
For example one device has the IP 192.168.0.1 and the next 192.168.0.2, etc.
This range of IP addresses is 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254 or simply 192.168.0.xxx
Private IP Addresses
Specific ranges of IP addresses are reserved for internal organization use and are not
routed on the internet. Those ranges include:
10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255
Typically the IP address listed above is the address of your proxy server or firewall.
Most hospital computers browse the internet through a proxy server (see diagram below) or
firewall configuration that makes the web page request on your behalf.
We need a list of all proxy server or firewall IP addresses for your hospital - assuming users are allowed to view
the sites from anywhere in the hospital. If you only want to allow access from part of your hospital, only provide
the IP addresses for those sections of the hospital.
