Abstract
Background
Extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants are at increased risk of
serious health and developmental problems. Timely evaluation can give healthcare providers and parents
reliable information for decision making regarding care of the ELBW infant.
Objective
To determine the health and developmental status at 2 years corrected
age of infants born weighing less than 1001 grams or less than 28 weeks gestational age at 35 Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)
participating in the Vermont Oxford Network.
Design/Methods
Predefined infant outcome data were collected at 2 years corrected age for all infants with birth weight of
less than 1001 grams or between 22 and 28 weeks gestational age who survived until hospital discharge.
