Nightingale Internet
Reporting System
We are pleased to offer Nightingale - an online reporting system for members that
provides secure real-time access to your hospital's data and to network data. Now you
can view, print and analyze your data in a variety of ways including comparing your
hospital's results with those of the Network as a whole and with subgroups of hospitals
similar to yours. Trend data are available starting in 1990. Nightingale provides new
flexibility to access and understand your data. It is available to Network
Members only, sign up is required. Click
here for more information.
The Registry for Neonatal Encephalopathy
The Vermont Oxford Network has established a Registry for Neonatal Encephalopathy. The Registry is
enrolling newborn infants with documented encephalopathy to identify their demographic characteristics,
associated perinatal factors, medical treatments, co-morbidities and outcomes.

New Study on Acuity-adjusted Staffing, Nurse Practice Environments and NICU Outcomes
We are working with researchers from the School of Nursing at the University of Pennslvania, the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Dartmouth College, and the University of Pittsburgh to study the effects
of nurse staffing on NICU patient outcomes. Participating NICUs will receive special confidential acuity adjusted
staffing reports. For more information about this Robert Wood Johnson funded study click here.
Please contact the study project manager Dr. Robyn Cheung
if you are interested in learning more about this study.
The NIC/Q 2007 Collaborative

NICU Practice & Process-Putting It All Together
NICQ 2007, which began in January 2007, is the 5th in a series of intensive improvement collaboratives
sponsored by the Vermont Oxford Network. Interdisciplinary teams from 46 institutions in
North America are working together over two years to improve the quality and safety of medical care

We recommend the Cochrane Neonatal Review Group (CNRG)
as a great resource for our members.
The CNRG
is one of over 50 collaborative review groups of the Cochrane Collaboration.
The CNRG produces and disseminates evidence-based, regularly updated reviews of the effects of therapies in
neonatal-perinatal medicine. The CNRG is funded by The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (USA)
which maintains an Internet archive of the neonatal reviews.
Mission:
The mission of the Vermont Oxford Network is to improve the quality and safety
of medical care for newborn infants and their families through a coordinated
program of research, education and quality improvement projects.
A Network of Neonatal Professionals
The Vermont Oxford Network is a non-profit voluntary collaboration of health
care professionals dedicated to our mission. Established in 1988, the Network
is today comprised of over 650 Neonatal Intensive Care Units around the world.
